Finland, May 2008
This gallery features a week-long exploration of central and eastern Finland just below the Arctic circle that I undertook with six friends. Our main purpose was to see many of the region's bird specialities - especially owls and woodpeckers - but we also targeted some of the special mammals, hoping to see Brown Bear at close quarters and maybe something extra special too... For photographers, camera EXIF data will be added shortly. Click the first image or its legend to enter the gallery. Last updated: 1 June 2008. If you go down into the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise...

...it's lovely down in the woods today but safer to stay at home...

...for ev'ry bear that ever there was...

...will gather there for certain because...

...there's lots of marvellous things to eat...

... and wonderful games to play...

... beneath the trees where nobody sees...

... they'll hide and seek as long as they please...

... watch them catch them unawares...

... see them gaily gad about...

... they love to play and shout...

... at six o'clock their mummies and daddies will take them home to bed...

... because they're tired little teddy brown bears...
